By the time you are reading this, I will be in Des Moines, Iowa, for the biannual General Assembly, joining many of my Disciples colleagues and siblings from all over the US and Canada. (I’ll be back on Wed, July 24). This is always a wonderful time of learning, fellowship, and worship. If this is like years past, I’ll have already been posting some short videos on facebook of the worship services, which began Sat, July 20; be sure to check them out when you have a chance! Side note, the next General Assembly is scheduled to be in Louisville in 2021; many local volunteers will be needed to make it a successful event so you will be hearing more about this down the road.
While I love worshipping with our own congregation, it is always a joy to worship with other Disciples as well. And speaking of that, did you know that we have a Disciples of Christ congregation located inside of Diersen House, which is a rehabilitation program and part of the KY correctional system? All of the residents there are women working hard to recover from drug abuse. Our own Grateful Threads have a ministry there seasonally teaching the women to knit too. The name of the congregation at Diersen is
New Life in Christ Christian Church. They have worship services every Tuesday evening, with various churches providing worship leadership. JCC has been one of these churches a number of times, as have both of my two previous congregations.
Our congregation is leading worship on Aug 20 at Diersen House and I would love to have you join us! I will be preaching and Paige will provide music. The service begins at 7pm; we ask that everyone arrive by 6:45pm. You must be 18 years old, and no cell phones are allowed inside. It is located near 13th and Oak St. in Louisville. If you have not been before, you are missing out; there is something REALLY special about worshipping with folks who have hit bottom and are working hard to turn their lives around! They are SO appreciative of everyone who comes, and truly, I am confident in saying YOU will be blessed by going! We also provide healthy snacks and drinks for fellowship after the service, so even if you are unable to attend, you may contribute items for the fellowship time. Thank you for considering this opportunity!
