Music is an essential component of all worship services at Jeffersontown Christian Church. Music enables the congregation to experience the presence of God in a unique way. Those who participate in the different music ensembles discover opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship in addition to the development of musical skills.
All ages are encouraged to be involved in one of the music ministries of JCC.
The Chancel Choir is directed by Dr. Rebecca Russell and is open to anyone who loves to sing. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 and leads in worship every Sunday with the exception of the summer months. At Christmas and Easter, the choir presents music centered worship experiences often accompanied by professional musicians from the Louisville Orchestra.
The handbell choir name comes from the Scottish word for church and is a long honored tradition of Jeffersontown Christian Church. Led by Dr. Rebecca Russell, the choir participates in several worship services throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30.
Children preschool age through 5th grade are encouraged to attend Children’s Music and More on Sunday afternoons from 12-2pm. They learn songs and do musical activities that are fun, educational, and faith filled. Children also engage in crafts, recreation, games and mission projects that enhance their knowledge of God and the church.
Joyful Spirits Band
Joyful Spirits was created as a “unique” addition to the music ministry of the church. Originally a four piece instrumental combo playing jazz arrangements of well known hymns, the band now adds vocals on occasion. Joyful Spirits provides music in worship many times throughout the year, but also reaches out to the community at fundraisers for Aids Interfaith Minstries and other events.
All youth 6th through 12th grade are welcome to meet each Sunday from 12-2pm. Youth sing, play handbells, and prepare music for worship and the community.
